How Outsourcing Can Be Your #1 Income Generator
By Victoria Player
One of the motivating factors that prompts people to go into business for themselves is the dream of having more time off whilst still making more money.
Many of the clients that I work with share their frustration, telling me that they work hard but are still experiencing difficulty in driving their business forward. But why is this? It's a problem that I see time and time again. In fact the reason so many solo entrepreneurs quit or watch their businesses go to the wall is that they're doing everything by themselves and they inevitably begin to feel a sense of overwhelm.
In order to grow your business with ease it's crucial to outsource, delegate, and systematise different parts of it, even if you're a beginner. Let's face it, having your own business means that you are often playing a number of roles. You're the bookkeeper, the marketer, the administrator to name but a few. It's impossible to do it all on your own.
Leverage Your Time
The first step is to LEVERAGE your time and resources and begin to delegate those tasks that are better done by someone else. Your time is valuable and should be spent working on the activities that are going to generate income. This is what I call doing your 'genius work,' the activities that can only be done by you.
Focus on Your Strengths
One challenge is knowing what to let go of first. So I suggest that you begin to outsource the tasks that you don't know how to do, that you don't have time for, that you don't enjoy, or that you are not good at. Focus on your strengths and delegate everything else. Don't get hung up on your weaknesses.
Enlist Some Help
Here's an example. I recently launched my Conscious Marketing Mastermind program. During the early planning stages I realised that I was going to need help if I was ever to ensure its smooth running. There were so many fiddly elements to take care of, moderating the forum, handling the registration process and dealing with monthly membership payments. It was clear that I needed a virtual assistant to bear some of the load so that I could stay focused on new projects.
Fortunately I enlisted help and have Sarah Richardson as my administrator. I also have a VA that handles a number of other tasks. Without them I'm certain that I would feel exasperated, anxious and overwhelmed with the amount of work to be done.
Save Time, Make Money
For me the beauty of running my own business is that I get to do what I love and it enables me to connect with my creativity and purpose. Money invested in help is money well spent. The hours that I save can now be used for marketing, writing, creating new info-products or developing new programs, all of which will bring me a good return on my investment.
There will only ever be 24 hours in each day. So in order to drive your business to the next level you will invariably have to delegate your areas of weakness. When you do, you'll quickly see a marked improvement in your revenues. The sooner the money comes in, the more you'll want to outsource! It's the ultimate leverage!
