There's no doubt that running your own business can present some of the most unique, rewarding and thrilling experiences.
However, there will also be occasions when you hit a brick wall. The ideas train dries up. You stare blankly at your laptop for hours. You feel unmotivated and the whole idea of working another day in your business can feel like an uphill battle.
It's moments like these that make you second guess yourself and the viability of business. Here are some simple steps to help you reignite your passion, so that you can spark that lovin' feeling for your biz once again.
:: be IN COMMUNITY
The entrepreneurial journey can be a little lonesome at times. When you work from home you don't get to chit-chat to colleagues, and you definitely don't get one of those last minute invitations for post-work drinkie-poos. It can be very easy to slip into isolation and self scrutiny.
Nothing will kick-start your inspiration and put the pizzazz back in your biz faster than being in community with other movers and shakers.
They say that you're the average of the five people you hang out with the most. So be sure to choose a community of like-minds that inspires you and helps you see what's truly possible. If it means getting up and traveling further afield then go do it.
When I lived in the Midlands I found it difficult to locate vibrant entrepreneurial communities locally. So I created my own and hosted it in London (and now also in Brighton). It was the perfect tonic. It enable me to get out of the house and out of 'mummy mode.' I created a reason to have fun whilst growing my business.
I always traveled home in a high-vibe state with my head full of ideas. Best of all, I felt motivated and inspired and never failed to increase my income within days of returning home. The perfect boost to any savvy girls bottom line. Cha-ching!
:: LAUNCH SOMETHING NEW
Do you feel like you're pushing the same old crap and nobody is listening? If things are getting stale it's time to get into creation mode. Nothing will enliven the senses more than pouring your heart and soul into something that lights you up - plus it will have your "tribe" waiting with baited breath to discover the big reveal!
People can feel it when you're passionate about what you do. You don't have to push. So do the things that light you up. Nothing sells faster than when you're working in your zone of genius.
Connect with the things that light you up. What can you create that feels good to you? What excites you? How can you work in a way that engages areas of your personality that may have been left on the back burner for a while?
I know in my business there's a limit to how much online and virtual stuff I can do. If I'm not thrown together with a room full of people every once in a while, I die a slow death on the inside. I become stagnant and uninspired. I thrive on face-to-face connection and being in community. So I organise a live event which does wonders for my energy and creates a healthy boost to my bottom line too.
:: TAKE A WORKCATION
There's nothing more humdrum than being at home going through the motions day-after-day. Who said that you have to stay stuck behind your desk anyway? One of the great things about running your own business is that you are the boss-lady. That means that you can decide to take the show on the road and inject a little fun into your business as you go.
Why not combine your business with a little luxuriant pleasure? Take a holiday and split your time between lounging on the beach and sightseeing (vacation), with time spent working on your business - hence "workcation." This will take you out of your usual environment, invigorate your senses, and have you on the road to inspiration in no time. Plus some on-location selfies do wonders for your personal brand!
:: BE 100% GLORIOUSLY YOU!
Possibly THE most paralyzing curse for the woman entrepreneur is that of comparison. Nothing will take the wind out of your sails faster than sizing yourself up against the competition. It leads to mental self-flagellation, feelings of not good enough, and ultimately leaves you incapacitated.
At times like this STOP! Stop with the social media. Stop with the online stalking and unsubscribe from EVERYTHING. Go within and follow your own heart. We each have an Inner Wisdom. Use it to guide yourself through the shit storm and out of the other side into all that you are meant for.
Just know this... You have everything it takes to be absolutely amazing. You have your own unique DNA that will put you heads and shoulders above everyone else. There is only ONE you, and you are enough to put the sparkle back into any business idea!
Just remember; your business can be the canvas on which you paint your life. Have it be a true and exciting expression of ALL that you are. Pour in your passion. Make it fun. Add your own unique blend of sparkle. When you do, it will act like a magical calling card to those that you are meant to serve.
So tell me...What do you do when you've hit a creative road block? What do you do to put the sparkle back in your biz? How do you get your creative juices flowing again?
